    The Chemistry behind the chemistry

Each of us had backgrounds playing in other bands on the side but nothing compares to what we have made here.

Evan and Allison knew each other in Seattle through mutual friends and began writing songs together a few years back. But it wasn't until they both moved to Asheville as a "temporary experiment" that they started to form the idea of putting a band together. They say timing is everything.

Roy had just finished what he calls “his time working for the man" and was starting to enjoy his lifelong passion of music and bass playing. In the meantime, Bill was just coming off his foray into what he calls "Psychedelic World Groove Metal" - a term that his future band mates would ponder over at great lengths.

A chance meeting through a local musician friend led to "explorations", which led to audition jams, which led to sharing of previous recordings, which led to what we call "Open Idea Exchanges".

We quickly knew we had a certain Chemistry. After all, Evan had owned a chemistry lab equipment company, while Allison had been a chemistry teacher, Bill had worked in the chemical industry, and Roy always had a love for "anything chemical". And somehow we all landed in Asheville at the right time. And so Ion Exchange was born. The name of the band signifies our view that we are all just Ions Colliding and Exchanging Ideas.

The title track “Chemistry” from our debut album is about the chemistry of the band and our common love of "everything chemical".

Come experiment with us. Be our lab partner.

    Ionically Yours,
    Evan, Allison, Roy, Bill
